A visit to Leon

Today we took a trip to Leon and checked out the local markets and the cathedral. Leon is about 45 minutes North of Nagarote. León is the second largest city in Nicaragua, after Managua. It was founded by the Spanish as León Santiago de los Caballeros and rivals Granada, Nicaragua, in the number of historic Spanish colonial churches, secular buildings, and private residences. As of 2012, the city had an estimated population of 201,100 which increases sharply during university season with many students coming from other regions of Nicaragua. It is the capital and largest city of the department León.

Christian Counseling

We are extremely blessed to have the talents of Mike Swihart serving in Nagarote this trip. Mike is a pastor and a Christian counselor and has traveled extensively providing counseling services free of charge. Mike is a licensed marriage and family therapist who has provided counseling for 34 years. For the past three years, he has been the director for missions and outreach for Wellspring Counseling in Miami. Melvin, the man on the left, served as his interpreter.

Food and Bible Distribution in the Smile Community

Today we headed to The Smile Community to deliver bags containing a Bible, devotional, beans, rice, and some hygiene products. Shortly after we began, the downpour came. We decided to finish our deliveries Friday, so stay tuned. Here are some pics before the rain.

Snakes, spiders, and scorpions....oh my!

We had two teams go out and serve today. The first team conducted a pastors and leaders training conference. About 60 people attended and it will continue tomorrow.



The second team worked on the mission farm. This is where the snakes, TARANTULAS, and scorpions came in to play. The constant screams, squeals, and jumping kept us entertained, and that was just from the guys! :)
